Death Takes Prominent Civic Leader

Mrs. Ann Chaffin Browning a prominent civic leader of 1528 28th, died early today at St. Benedict's Hospital of cancer.

She was the wife of Val A. Browning, internationally known industrialist and president of Browning, formerly Browning Arms Co.

CHARITABLE DEEDS
Mrs. Browning was known for her quiet generosity through numerous charitable deeds as an individual and as a member of various organizations.

She was born in Farmington, a daughter of George Riley and Rosemary Walker Chaffin.
On Aug 9, 1924, she married Val Allen Browning in Ogden.

Mrs. Browning grew up in Farmington and after her marriage spent 12 years in Liege Belgium before moving to Ogden. In recent years she had spent the winters in Pauma Valley, Calif.
She attended Davis High School and the University of Utah.

PAST PRESIDENT
Mrs. Browning was a past president of the Ogden Junior League and the Ogden Golf and Country Women's Club Association. She was a member of the University of Utah National Advisory Council and the University President's Club.

She had received the President's Citation from Weber State College.

Survivors include her husband of Ogden; two sons and two daughters, John Val Browning of Ogden, David Bruce Browning of Bainbridge, Wash., Mrs E.W. (Carol) Dumke of Sun Valley , Idaho, Mrs. Leon L. (Judith) Jones of Ogden; 14 grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters. Dr. Laurence Chaffin of Los Angeles, Russell Chaffin of Phoenix, Ariz. Mrs. Harman (Dean) Peery and Mrs. A.W. (Lou) Bartlett, both of Ogden.

FUNERAL SERVICES
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Lindquist Colonial Funeral Chapel with Bishop William A. Williams of the LDS 43rd Ward officiating.

The family will meet friends one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Washington Heights Memorial Park.
In-lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
