Death of Mrs. D. Alexander Early Today
Continuous Resident of City Since Arrival in 1884 from Scotland
Mrs. David Alexander, a resident of Grand Island since 1884, died shortly before ten o'clock, this morning, at a hospital in this city, following an illness of only several days. Pneumonia was the cause of death.
Charlotte Bryce was born Oct. 26, 1857, at Glasgow, Scotland, where she received her education and grew to womanhood, being united in marriage to David Alexander, at Stranraer, Scotland, on July 18, 1877.
Mr. and Mrs. Alexander emigrated to the United States in the March of 1884 and came to Grand Island, which has since been her home. Mr. Alexander engaged in the contracting business in which he was active until his death, resulting from injuries in a construction accident, on Nov. 13, 1892. Nine children were born of their marriage, a daughter, Mrs. Bert Morris, preceding her in death in 1920, and three children passing away in infancy.
The departed was particularly devoted to her home and family, her principal outside interest centering about activities attending a life-long membership in the First Congregational church.
Surviving to mourn her passing are five sons, J. B., Adair, Sr., Joe and Dave, all of Grand Island, and H. B., at Longmont, Colo., eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at two o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, at the Livingston-Sonderman funeral home, Rev. E. C. Ford, pastor of the First Congregational church, will officiate and burial will be in the family plot in Grand Island cemetery.
Friends desiring to view the body may do so, at the funeral home, Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The family requests that there be no flowers.

A large number of friends attended funeral services for Mrs. David Alexander, Sr., held two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, at the Livingston-Sonderman funeral home. Rev. E. C. Ford, pastor of the First Congregational church, conducted the services and Miss Effie Geer, accompanied by Mrs. F. J. Titt, sang two numbers. Six grandsons, the Messrs. Raymond, Bruce, Bobbie, Frank and Adair Alexander, Jr., and David Morris, served as pallbearers and burial was in the family plot in Grand Island cemetery. Her husband preceded her in death many years ago.
