Emma Bucher Bates, born 1860 in Ohio, to parents Andrew Bucher and Margarite Ann Youngker, Emma married Willis Clark Bates, September 21, 1880 in Fostoria, Seneca County, Ohio, had four children as of the 1895 Kansas State Census, Minnie b-1883 d-1964, Herbert b-1885 d-1885, Vernon Howard b-1885 d-1932 and possibly a daughter Emma born in Dec of 1892 that died in infancy the following March in 1893. This would explain the 1895 Kansas State Census, in which both Minnie and Vernon are listed living with Emma and Willis but the census listing Emma as the mother of 4 children and only 2 of them surviving. Emma also had a set of twins July of 1900 and during or shortly after delivery Emma died of complications during childbirth July 30, 1900. At this time we have only "The Kansas Death and Burials Index 1885-1930" indicating death on July 30th, 1900. It is assumed she died shortly after the birth and death of the twins on or about the same day and month. We are still looking for proof of this event. She is buried in plot #897, grave #2 of Woodlawn Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas. Her headstone has been located but it is weathered beyond legibility. Here is the information as it appears in the above mentioned Index:
