Joann Bucher, of Bellevue, WA and Indio, CA, passed away peacefully at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue on October 5, 2008 with her daughter, Donna, holding her hand. She was 76 years old.

Joann was born at her Uncle Clem's house in Knox City, Texas on Sunday, November 8, 1931 to Fred Seburn McHugh and Ina Lucille Ball McHugh, who had gone to Uncle Clem's for a weekend visit. She was raised in San Angelo, Texas where she graduated from San Angelo High School in 1949. On December 27, 1952 she married Vernie Dean Bucher in San Angelo. After Vernie's graduation from Texas A&M University, they relocated to southern California where they would make their home for the next 50 years. Joann had a successful 20+ year career as a real estate agent. In her leisure time, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, taking road trips, and visiting with friends and family. Joann was friendly and outgoing and made friends easily wherever she went – she "never met a stranger." She always had a stash of chocolate hidden somewhere, loved a good steak, Texas BBQ, anything with nuts (especially pecans), good strong coffee with lots of Coffee Mate, and her nightly vodka tonic with lime. A highlight for her in the past few years was taking a summer job at the YMCA camp at Estes Park, Colorado where, of course, she made numerous friends.

Survivors include daughter Donna Bucher-Hudson (husband Tom) of Bellevue, WA; daughter Lori Schultze (husband Chris) of Lancaster, CA; four granddaughters who will miss their "Nana": Kaitlin Hudson, and Kendra, Tarynn, and Jacqueline Schultze; sister Kay Murphy of Spirit Lake, ID; one nephew and one niece. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernie, in September 2003, as well as her parents, her brother, an infant grandson, and a nephew.

A graveside service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 1 p.m.

The family suggests donations in Joann's name be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Flintoft's Funeral Home & Crematory of Issaquah, WA, and Arlington Mortuary of Riverside, CA.
