Three In Family Die From Burns
Received When Stove Explodes

Mr. and Mrs. F. O. Bullard and their fourteen-months old granddaughter, Elaine Chapman, lost their lives when a stove in their home near here exploded early Friday morning. It is reported that Mr. Bullard was using kerosene to kindle a fire in the stove when the explosion occurred.

The flames quickly enveloped the room; the baby’s mother, Mrs. Nina Chapman was seriously burned, but is recovering. Another daughter of the Bullard's, Miss Margaret Bullard, extinguished the flames and summoned help. Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Miller, who live nearby, assisted at the home and phoned for a doctor and later an ambulance to take the injured ones to the hospital in Thomasville.

Mr. and Mrs. Bullard and the baby died later in the day Friday. The bodies were taken to Camilla, Ga., the old family home, for funeral services and interment.

The family had moved to Monticello from Quincy only two weeks before the tragic fire occurred. Mr. Bullard had rented a farm at Lamont and the family moved into the nearest available residence, one located near the home of Mr. and Mrs. Miller.

Residing at home with their parents were three daughters, Margaret Bullard, Mrs. Harry Beaty and Mrs. Nina Chapman. The husbands of the two latter daughters are both serving in the armed forces overseas. The Bullard’s are survived by two sons who are also overseas.
