Irene L. Healy, 89, of Aberdeen, passed away Friday, October 9, 2015, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen, surrounded by her family.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 624 N Jay St, Aberdeen, with Reverend Tyler Poppen, officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

Irene L. (Buntrock) Healy was born August 31, 1926, to Herman and Elise (Podoll) Buntrock in Columbia, SD. She attended Garland Rural Kelly School in Garland Township and graduated from Columbia High School with the Class of 1944. Following graduation, Irene moved to Aberdeen and began working as a dental assistant.

Irene was united in marriage to Michael J. Healy on April 16, 1952, at Columbia. The couple made Aberdeen their home, where Irene was employed for the Aberdeen Public School System for several years. Irene and Mike shared nearly 49 years of marriage and raised three children before he passed away in February of 2001. Irene continued to reside in Aberdeen. In April of 2013 she became a resident of Avera Mother Joseph Manor, where she remained until the time of her death.

Irene was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and St. Luke’s Auxiliary in Aberdeen. She loved playing cards and was an avid Bridge player. Irene also enjoyed playing Nickel Bingo and cooking for her family and friends.

Blessed to have shared in Irene’s life are her children: Scott Healy, Cheryl (Curtis) Nash, and Shawn Healy; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Esther Herther; one brother-in-law, George (Delores) Healy; one sister-in-law, Virginia (Buntrock) Morrison; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Elise; husband, Michael; four brothers: Paul Buntrock, Egon Buntrock, Walter Buntrock and Herbert Buntrock; and two sisters: Edna Ringgenberg and Gertrude Rehfeld.
