A.S. BURCHARD, HEAD OF POLIO FOUNDATION, DIES
OXFORD - A. Stanley Burchard, 73, retired Oxford bussinessman of 7 Chenango Street, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha West Burchard, a son, Albert S. Burchard of Ridgewood, N.J., a daughter Prudence Gerberg of Spencer, N.Y., two sisters, Helen B. Hoose of Binghamton and Mildred Burchard of Elmira and 10 grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Oxford Academy and Cornell University, class of 1918. He was a member of the Cornell Club and Oxford Lodge, 175, F&A, and received his 50-year-pin in the spring. He was a life member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and former vestryman and lay reader.
He also was a member of the Fiscal Corporation of the Episcopal Diocese. He has been president of the Library Association for 25 years and a member of Sapho Club.
Mr. Burchard had served as chairman of the Chenango County Polio Foundation since its inception.
He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Navy Island Barracks. He also was a member of Fort Hill Post 149 of the American Legion and adjutant for 20 years.
Friends may call at the Burchard home Wednesday from 7 to 9 and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
Masonic services will be held at the Burchard home at 8 Thursday night.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oxford at 2 p.m. Friday with burial to be in Riverview Cemetery.
