Elizabeth Burke "Bette" Bowerman, 83, of Scott Depot, W.Va., and formerly of Annapolis, Maryland died Oct. 13 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., from complications of acute myelogenous leukemia.

Mrs. Bowerman was born in New York City on Aug. 31, 1924, to the late Harold and Elizabeth Elvina Crotty Burke. She was the stepdaughter of the late Virginia Burton Burke.

She earned a journalism degree from Marymount College of Tarrytown, N.Y., worked at the former Fabric Corner in Annapolis and was manager of the Fabric Chest in Glen Burnie.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in St. Albans, W.Va., where she was a eucharistic minister and active in the women's club. She was also a member of Birthright International and a former member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crofton.

Her interests included sewing, knitting, quilting and Birthright International.

She is survived by three sons, R. Stacy Bowerman of Globe, Ariz., Gregory Bowerman of Atlanta and John Bowerman of St. Louis, Mo.; four daughters, Patricia Harris of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Elizabeth Liberatore of Scott Depot, Kim Bowerman of Glen Burnie and Victoria Kerr of Atlanta; one brother, Robert Burke of Scotch Plains, N.J.; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was married in 1950 to Robert Arthur Bowerman who died in 1999. She was the sister of the late William and Patricia Burke.
