Baptismal name: Marie Aveline Burleigh
Known as: Evelina Burleigh

Evelina Burleigh Blalock was born in Bayou Boeuf in 1818, to Robert Burleigh III and Mary Magdeline Miller Burleigh. Soon after her birth, her father established a farm in Grand Coteau.

Evelina was married to William B. Blalock in 1845. They began their married life between Opelousas and Grand Coteau, where William worked as a blacksmith and repairman.

In 1866, they purchased property and established a farm between Big Cane and Morrow Station, where they raised four children:

Gilbert Wilburn Blalock (1847-1930), mar. (1) Sarah Eugenia Causey, (2) Rutha Ann Vermillion and (3) Morgana Johnson
William Stanford Blalock (1849-1927), mar. Lucy E. Vannoy
Louisiana Marie Blalock (1850-1921), mar. James R. Reed Jr.
Mary Emerite Blalock (1854-before 1918), mar. Irad Fisher

After the death of Evelina's husband in 1888, her son Gilbert and his family moved back to the family farm with Evelina. Later, she moved between the homes of her children and grandchildren.

Evelina lived to over 100 years old. At the time of her death, she was living in Bunkie (Avoyelles Parish) with granddaughter Emma Reed Morgan. Evelina's death certificate was prepared by a coroner located in Evergreen, Louisiana, and she was removed to St. Landry Parish for burial in the "Catholic cemetery in Dubuisson." According to Sadler's Catholic Directory, Almanac and Ordo for the Year of Our Lord 1890, Bayou Boeuf Chapel was a Catholic chapel in this location, attended by the priest from Washington, St. Landry Parish (Immaculate Conception). Dubuisson Cemetery has historically been known as the Old Bayou Boeuf Chapel Cemetery.

Please note that the obituary states that death occurred at Evelina's home at Morrow Station, but the documentation of her death does not support this statement. Census records show that Evelina was no longer living at the family farm and the death certificate places her death in Bunkie, Avoyelles Parish.
