Julia was the 11th child born to Patrick (1840-1890) and Julia (nee Gartlan 1844-1904) Byrne (later Burns) at Farthogorman in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, Ireland on 22 October 1888, and was baptized at Joseph's RC, Carrickmacross, on 23 Oct 1888.
Julia arrived in the US in 1907 with her brother Patrick (b 1885-d. circa 1909-10). Together they joined their siblings Anne (1875-?), Maggie (Mrs. C. John Carlson - 1882-1936), Kate (Mrs. John Kissane - Patrick's twin sister 1885-1959), and Peter Burns (1878-1963) in Chicago IL. Their brother James b. 1872 lived in NY.
Remaining in Ireland were their sisters Bridget (Mrs. James McEneaney 1866-1948) and Mary (Mrs. Patrick Rooney 1868-1961).
Julia left Chicago in 1912 for CA before going to Spokane, and returned to Sacramento in 1913 where she began a 45 year employment with the Southern Pacific Railroad. Retired, Julia moved to Santa Cruz in 1961 with her only son, Patrick J. Burns (1913-1977) where she was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Surviving Julia were her son Patrick J. Burns, four grandsons - Michael J, Patrick, Robert & Timothy Paul Burns, 6 g-grandchildren, sister Kate, nephews Elmer & Jack Kissane, and G-nieces Charlotte Carlson (IL), Jone Carlson (FL); G-nephews Jack E. (CA), John W., Lance Carlson (FL), the Kissane's, and Thomas McEneaney & all the other Byrne/Burns descendants in County Monaghan, Ireland.
