Bernice worked during WWII in New York City for Young and Rubicam. She married Courtney Burton on Oct. 14, 1942 the day before Courtney shipped out to serve his country! Upon his return, they had 2 children: Carol and Linda (Kochanov).
Bernice knew her time with her family was to be short lived, but she never complained, never showed her discomfort. She was an amazing role model.

Mrs. Bernice Burton, wife of Courtney B. Burton, fire commissioner of Valhalla, died yesterday at White Plains Hospital after a short illness. She was 41 and resided at 87 Jefferson Ave. A native of New York City, Mrs. Burton had lived in Valhalla for the past 12 years and was a former resident of White Plains. She was a member of the Valhalla Parent-Teacher Association and was active with the local Girl Scout troops. She was a member of Valhalla Methodist Church. Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Linda and Carol of the home address and her parents, Norman L. and Edith Horton Boyle of 26 Midland Avenue, White Plains.
