"The R in Carrie's daughter's name stood for Rhea, but she was always known as Irene. She always assumed that her mother had died when she was very small and she was raised by her Bullock grandmother. Her father, William E. Bullock, was a railroad engineer and not around full time. But he was very active in her upbringing and made his home with her and her husband. (Well, he, after retirement, spent his winters in Florida). I do not think Irene learned until after she was married and had her own son that her mother was still living, and never the details of the reason for the divorce and why her father was the one who kept her. I do not think she ever had any contact whatsoever with her mother. A cursory search did not give me the date that William died but he outlived Irene by 4 or 5 years being buried in a military cemetery in West Palm Beach. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War.(and quite a wonderful old gentleman, by the way)." 4/15/2005.
