He was promoted to Full 2nd Lieutenant on August 27, 1862 and Commissioned an Officer in Company H, Massachusetts 37th Infantry Regiment on September 4, 1862. He was promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant on July 4, 1863 and was mustered out on February 5, 1864.
