Allen Burr Roberts was the first-born child of Henry Roberts Jr. and Chloe Burr. His younger brother Nelson is also in the cemetery. Allen married Martha Cook of Torringford, daughter of Jesse Cook a blacksmith in 1840. The couple lived and worked on the Messenger Farm on Torringford West Street where their two children were born, Chloe (1843) and Alan J. (1845).
When his father died in 1865 Allen Burr inherited the farm, he had built for his second wife Betsy Tiffany in 1830. That house is located at 3651 Torringford Street and its land went West to the Still River and is now the northern half of the industrial park.
Allen Burr Roberts inherited the 400-acre east face of Burr Mountain from his grandfather Reuben Burr circa 1827. Allen Burr and his son Allen J. developed a new farm where Southworth's Furniture store is now. They cut timber off the land and milled it at their sawmill powered by a stream that drains the land east of Highland Lake. That mill was close to the Winchester town line and the mill dam is still there west of the Winsted Road. Chloe Roberts Bush who's survived all the others sold her brother's farm to Lavinia Burr circa 1909 and her son John Hurlbut Burr sold it to Frank Travis in 1919. Travis built a spectacular country estate there that existed 1920-1948.
