Mabel "Jean" Ambrose died Sunday October 8, 2006 at Newmark Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was 85. She was born August 26, 1921 in Altonna, Kansas to Tom and Mabel (Thoroughman) Bushfield. After attending Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kansas, she taught school in Wilson County, Kansas, beginning in a one room schoolhouse and served as principal of Benedict, Kansas Elementary School. Jean was a member of LifeBridge Christian Church in Longmont, and was a past president of the Longmont Women's Club. She loved hand quilting, quilting several hundred quilts for people across the United States. She married Vertis Ambrose on April 22, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri. Mrs. Ambrose is survived by her husband, Vertis, two sons; Neil Ambrose and his wife Gayle of Kansas City, and Brett Ambrose and his wife Cathy of Pine, Colorado; a brother James Lewis Bushfield of Kansas City; three grandchildren, Robyn Staggs and her husband Jim, Matthew and Elizabeth Ambrose, and one great grandson Alexander Vargas. Visitation will be held at 10 am to 10:30 am Friday October 27 at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel. Graveside and interment services will follow at 11 am at Foothills Gardens of Memory, with Joe Harvey of LifeBridge Christian Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Music Department at LifeBridge Christaian (sic) Church in care of Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel, 503 Terry St., Longmont, CO 80501.
