María Josefa Clara Bustamante was born at San Diego, Alta California, New Spain, where she was baptized in the San Diego Presidio Chapel January 12, 1791 (SD Baptism 01456). She was the daughter of soldado José Manuel Bustamante and Clara "Sinusín", an Indian neophyte. María married the widowed soldado Macedonio Antonio Barreras y Balderama (about 1770, Alamos, Sonora) at the San Diego Presidio Chapel on May 4, 1809 (SD Marriage 00942). María died at San Diego and was buried in the Presidio Cemetery July 27, 1811 (SD Death 02050).
