He was born in La Fragua on Sept. 13, 1920, to the late Dionicio Bustamante and Marquitos Gallegos Bustamante.
He was united in marriage on Dec. 23, 1941, to Frances Ulibarri. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded the Victory Medal.
A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of the Nuestra Senora De Esquipula Church in Sena, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Dionicio and Marquitos Bustamante; Brother: Antonio Bustamante and his twin Brother Adelio-KIA in World War 2 and three of his sisters.
He is survived by his wife: Frances Bustamante of the family home in La Fragua; sons and daughter: Abel Bustamante Jr. and wife Veronica and Phil Bustamante and wife Vangie of Albuquerque., Dale Bustamante and wife Martha of Las Vegas, N.M., Patsy Bustamante of La Fragua, Albert Bustamante and wife Helen and Arthur Bustamante and wife Lillian all of Las Vegas, N.M.; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; brother: Onesimo Bustamante and wife Josie of Belen, N.M.; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Eloisa Garcia of Oakland, Calif., Amalia Gutierrez and husband Ignacio of El Pueblo, N.M., Damacio Ulibarri and wife Feliz of Rio Rancho, N.M. and Magdalena Villanueva of Albuquerque; numerous: nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary devotional services will be conducted on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Villanueva. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Villanueva with Father Thomas Kayammakal as celebrant. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Sena Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Arthur Bustamante Jr., Adelio Bustamante, David Bustamante, Dion Bustamante, Carlos Bustamante, Mark Bustamante and Phillip Bustamante, Jr. Serving as honorary bearers will be all his remaining great-grandchildren.
