The Lord called to his side his servant on Saturday July 31, 2010. Evalena, 92, was a proud World War II Marine Corps Staff Sergeant and retired San Diego City Schools teacher. The daughter of the late William Henry and Ruey (Dennison) Butler, Evalena was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Eldon C. Baber, Sr. and son Denzil Baber. She is survived by her children, Frank and Carolyn Baber, Edwinna (Baber) and Mark Wright, Eldon and Linda Baber, and Robert Baber; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving, are her brother Denzel Butler of Cameron WV, and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service will be held October 16th at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego. Her family and friends would like to thank the amazing people of the Joseph C. Thomas Center at Richfield Retirement Community, her health-care companion and friend Judy Riley (Pinky), and Gentle Shepherd Hospice Care for their devoted love and care of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Special Olympics.
