US Congressman. He was elected as a Democrat to represent Pennsylvania's 5th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1855 to 1857. He later served as United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 1858 until his death in 1879. He was the older brother of Civil War Union General George Cadwalder, and the cousin of Civil War Union Army officers Alexander Williams Biddle and Chapman Biddle. His grandfather was Revolutionary War Pennsylvania Militia General John Cadwalader.
