Civil War Union Army Officer.

Served in the 1st Philadelphia City Troop, Pennsylvania Militia from May 13, 1861 to August 17, 1861.

On October 3, 1861 he was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in Company E, 6th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. Promoted to Captain and commander of Company D on May 18, 1862, he served until his term of enlistment expired on September 17, 1862, and he was honorably mustered out. On March 13, 1865 he received brevets of Major and Lieutenant Colonel, US Volunteers.

After the way he became a physician.
