A Sudden Death.
Mrs. Essie Burchard, daughter of Patrick Cain, of this city, died at her home on Wabash Ave., South, about 10 p. m. on Thursday of last week from the effects of taking a dose of strychnine. She is said to have been mentally unbalanced for some time past, and it is thought that her mind was in this condition when she swallowed the drug. When she comprehended the gravity of her act, she begged her physicians to try to save her life, but it was too late. She leaves besides her husband, R. D. Burchard, a son aged three years. The funeral services were conducted at the Catholic church Saturday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. C. T. O'Leary, and the remains were interred in St. Mary's cemetery, South of town. Her father, Mr. Caine, had resided with the deceased since the death of his wife, which occurred last winter.
