NATIONAL MINE, Mich. - Ella Mae Alderton, 83, of 300 County Road PBA, National Mine, died at 7:20 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where she had been a resident since December of 2004.

Ella was born June 18, 1929 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI to Alrick and Mary (McFarland) Cairns, and was a graduate of Sault Ste. Marie High School. She and her family moved to this area in 1965. She worked as a cook for AMCAB for over 30 years, served as the Tilden Township Clerk for 20 years, and was an active member of the Michigan Township Clerks Association for many years. She was also a member of the Lillian Larson American Legion Post # 114 Auxiliary. Ella was an avid reader, an awesome cook, loved to sing, play cards, go to camp, enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, shopping in Marquette, and an occasional trip to the casino.

Surviving are 3 sons: Fred (Rita Culbert) VanLuven and Mike Alderton, both of National Mine, and Barry (Shana) Alderton of Tilden Township; 4 daughters: Elaine (Steve) Anderson of Ely Township, Marsha (Richard) Fraser of Ishpeming Township, Sandy (Greg) LeClair of National Mine and Tammi (Mike) Daily of Manly, Iowa; son-in-law, Dean Carlson of Green Creek Location, Ely Township; 31 grand- children; 36 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Cairns of Sault Ste. Marie, numerous nieces and nephews. Ella was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred A. Alderton, 2 daughters: Penny Carlson and Patti Nickerson, 2 granddaughters: Angie Nickerson and Sheryl Ketola, 2 brothers: George Cairns and Jim Stevenson, and a sister, Laura Hubert.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating. Interment will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
