The son of Richard and Lillie, Alton Campbell KIA while crossing the Chongchon River, North Korea on November 26, 1950, PFC Alton Ray Campbell was the first to enter the water and kept firing until his comrades made it to the far shore - mortally wounded,his troops would relate the details of the event.

For his leadership and valor, Private First Class Campbell was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
