Opened on August 21, 1960, the monument is located at Hisarlýk Hill in Morto Bay the southern end of the Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. The memorial is dedicated to the service of 253,000 Turkish soldiers who participated at the Battle of Gallipoli, April 1915 to December 1915, during World War I. After the proclamation of the Republic in 1973, the grounds were declared a National Park, which include a museum, plus the area cemeteries with the remains of thousands of heroes whom were martyred in the Ballan and Canakkale Wars. The memorial and park is the largest in Turkey and attracts over a half million visitors a year.
