Antonica Fairbanks Canova, better known as Toni Canova, passed away February 26, 2015, just 25 days before her 100th birthday. She is a long time resident of Green Cove Springs and later Orange Park until 2007 when she moved to Fremont, California to be near her son and his family.

Toni was born in West Springfield, Massachusetts on March 22, 1915. She attended high school in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. Her family was very talented in music and she with a brother and sister were students in the 1920s in the Swarthmore school of Music. After high school Toni won a 3-year scholarship to the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, MD and later she studied at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. There she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1935. She attended Julliard School of Music in New York City in the summer of 1935 and returned to the family home in Swarthmore to join the Philadelphia Piano Orchestra as a concert pianist. She traveled with this group for a few years during WWII, although she found the travel stressful.

Toni purchased the Swarthmore School of Music about 1940 and for the next 15 years she would teach piano from the family home on Park Avenue in Swarthmore, PA. The school officially closed in November 1955 with the marriage to Frank Canova. Frank was a widower who had a prior son. Frank worked in advertising for Hercules Powder Company. Their son Frank Jr was born the first year of their marriage in Wilmington, Delaware. They lived there until Frank Sr. retired in 1957, then all the family moved to Green Cove Springs, Florida. Toni continued to share her musical talents and played the church organ for a dozen years. When Frank died, she moved into a smaller home in Orange Park, FL then ultimately to Fremont, CA.

Toni leaves her son Frank Canova Jr. and grandson Cameron Canova of Fremont, CA, and grandsons Dan and Tad Canova and their children from her stepson Jude, as well as several generations of beloved nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her husband Frank, step-son Jude, as well as her siblings, Camilla King, and Charles, Edmund, Anthony and Neligan Fairbanks.

A viewing was held March 4, 2015 and a memorial piano recital was held April 4, 2015 for her friends in Fremont, CA. A funeral Mass was held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Green Cove Springs, FL at 11am on May 23, 2015, followed by burial of her ashes at Hickory Grove Cemetery and a reception at the V.I.A. building in Green Cove Springs.
