WILLIAM L. CARY GOES TO FINAL REST

Mr. William L. Cary, one of the county's most highly respected citizens, died
at Brown Hospital Friday morning. He had been ill for several weeks,
suffering from a serious kidney ailment and, since before he was brought to
the hospital for treatment, but little hope was ever held by the family
members for his recovery on account of his age. He was 86.
Mr. Cary was a native of Franklin County, the oldest citizen of Middle River
district. Honorable and upright, standing always for the things that were
best, he had hundreds of friends not only in this section, but throughout this
part of the state who learned with deep regret of his passing.
Following the death of his wife some twenty years ago, Mr. Cary has shared his
time with his several children, having for some years resided with Mr. & Mrs.
Lee Cromer.
Funeral services and interment took place at Pennington's Chapel Tuesday
afternoon at three o'clock, the funeral having been delayed for two days
account the weather and road conditions. Rev. T. L. Aaron and W. T. Holcomb
conducted the services in the presence of hundreds of friends and relatives,
while B. D. Ginn and C. N. Weatherly had charge of funeral arrangements.
Surviving "Uncle Will' as he was so familiarly known to his hundreds of
friends, are two daughters and three sons -- Mrs. Lucile Selman, Greenville,
SC; Mrs. Lee Cromer, Royston; W. C. Cary, Anderson, SC; Felton Cary of Franklin Springs and Webb Cary of Starr, SC, Two sisters and four brothers also survive, they are Mrs. W. Phillips, Royston; Mrs. W.C. Roling (?), Anderson; A.A. and H.D Cary of Royston; Milt Cary, Danielsville, Thomas A. Cary, Atlanta.
