Tony was the fifth child, third son of Margaret and James Carey. He was Patrick McNevin's grandson and TJ McNevin's nephew. He was the husband of Mary Crowley who he married June 25, 1919, St.Leo's Church in Lewistown, Mt. Their children were Richard Anthony (1920-1970) James Robert (1921-1926) Raymond William (1923-1978) and Anita Joyce (1927-1979). They moved to Long Beach in 1922 and eventually owned home at 121 Argonne in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach. Mary McNevin lived here carrying for his children while she was in high school. He was a Bails bondsman and later owned a restaurant near Navy landing. In March 1939 he, his brother Jack and his son Richard flew into the mountains of California on a business trip. When they flew back it was foggy and they got over the ocean and ran out of gas. After two to three hours he and his brother drown. His body was found on a beach in San Diego County.

"Body of Anthony Carey Recovered Near Border City - By means of an expensive watch, the body found at a San Diego County beach several days ago was identified yesterday as that of Anthony J. Carey, victim of an airplane crash off the coast here March 20. Authorities at San Diego announced the identification. Captain William H. Dovey of the police department, a friend of the Carey family, left to confer with authorities at that city. The body of John J. Carey, brother of Anthony, who was drowned in the same crash, has not been recovered. Richard Carey, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Carey, and James J. Buntin, 34, of 651 Redondo Avenue, were rescued by a fishing boat. Young Carey was piloting the plane when it was forced down in the ocean after gasoline was exhausted."(Newspaper Clipping) (Long Beach Press Telegram)
