CANON-Staff Sergeant J.C. Carey, 80, of 5710 New Franklin Church Rd., died Feb. 18, 2005 at his home.

The son of the late Johnny and Onnie Cromer Carey was born in Franklin County on Dec. 24, 1924. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force in October 1965 and was a member of the Double Branches Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elder Lee Ayers Carey of Canon; sons, Wendell and Wayland Carey, both of Albany; daughters, Alice Stewart, Albany, Martha Music, Canon, Betty Rentz, Leesburg, Fla., and Karen Noah, Haleyville, Ala.; sisters, Oles Brawner, Carnesville, and Lettie Smith, Casey, S.C.; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughters, Earnestine and Debra Jaye Carey; brothers, Hassel, Stancil, and Huelinder Carey; and sisters, Annie Bell Roberts and Jeffie Nelms.

The Rev. Jimmy Maness officiated at the funeral, held Feb. 21, 2005 in the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Middle River Baptist Church Cemetery with full military rites.
