Actor. The son of silent actor Harry Carey and actress Olive Carey, he served in the United States Navy during World War II before appearing in more than 100 motion pictures and on numerous television shows from the 1940s through the 1980s. He was a member of John Ford's stock company of actors and appeared in 11 of the director's classic Westerns including “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” (1949), “Rio Grande” (1950), “Wagon Master” (1950), “The Long Gray Line” (1955), “The Searchers” (1956), “Two Rode Together” (1961) and “Cheyenne Autumn” (1964). He made numerous appearances in television shows, including “The Lone Ranger”, “The Rifleman”, “Perry Mason”, “Have Gun Will Travel”, “Bonanza”, “Mannix”, “Doc Elliot” and “Little House on the Prairie”. In 1994 he published the memoir “Company of Heroes: My Life as an Actor in the John Ford Stock Company”.
