Phyllis Ackerman passed away peacefully in her Claremont home on Wednesday, August 2. Family was at her bedside at her time of passing, including Allen, her beloved husband of 55 years.
Phyllis, the daughter of Tom and May Carr, was born in Madison, Wisconsin and raised in Lynwood, California. She attended Lynwood Jr. H.S., Compton H.S. and Compton College, where she was a member of the drill team. While there, Phyllis met her future husband, Allen Lee Ackerman. After their marriage, they settled in Compton and moved to Claremont in 1962, where they raised their daughter, Terry and two sons, Dennis and Craig.
Phyllis was active in Youth sports Organizations, the Pomona Valley Assistance League and the Pomona Valley Real Estate Board. Family, friends and neighbors were of utmost importance to Phyllis. She treasured her time spent on RV trips/Jazz Festivals with Mary Ann and Bo, annual family trips to Meeks Bay, Lake Tahoe for the past 50 years, traveling to baseball/softball games, at all levels for her sons, grandsons and granddaughter, following her beloved L.A. Lakers and going to lunch with her high school/college and real estate buddies.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Allen Ackerman; brothers, Bob and sister-in-law Lenore Carr, David and sister-in-law Sue Carr; son, Craig Ackerman; daughter, Terry and husband Bud Smith; granddaughter, Stephanie and husband Scott Strachan; son Dennis Ackerman; grandsons, Dominic and Brett Ackerman; sister-in-law, Mary Ann and brother-in-law, Harold Bosacki; cousin, Linda and Chuck Robertson; and her nieces and nephew.
