Juan José Carrillo y Bandini was the son of Pedro Catarino Carrillo y Castro (BP Baptism 00528) and María Josefa Ramona Maxima Bandini y Estudillo (SD Baptism 05520). He was born at Santa Bárbara, Alta California, México, where he was baptized in the Presidio Chapel by Fr. Narciso Durán on September 19, 1842 (BP Baptism 00528). He became a U.S. citizen with the transfer of California's sovereignty in 1848. He married Francisca Roldan y Alvarado at Los Angeles on October 7, 1868. He served for many years as a Los Angeles county sheriff and later as a judge. Judge Carrillo served as mayor of Santa Mónica from 1890 until 1897. He was the father of actor and conservationist Leo Carrillo. He died at Santa Monica March 31, 1916, and was buried in the Carrillo Family Plot, Woodlawn Cemetery.
