Ollie Dean Carroll Akins, 92, of Niota, departed this life Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she had been a resident of the Life Care Center of Athens for the past 2 years. She was a member of Niota United Methodist Church and was retired from Niota Textile Industries. A daughter of the late Granville and Carrie Belle Wade Carroll, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Akins on Dec. 6, 1971; six sisters, Lela Lee, Nona Dewitt, Della Carroll, Ruby Stephens, Mattie Lee Brady and Audrey Carroll; and one brother, Edward M. Carroll.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James A. "Jim" and Janette Akins of Athens; two granddaughters, Diane Honaker of Niota and Carol Beaudet of Milford, Mich.; four great-granddaughters, Holly Honaker Warren and husband, Stacy Warren, and Melissa Honaker, all of Niota, and Jamie Dodd and Lindsey Gilliam, both of Milford, Mich.; one great-great-grandson, James Blake Warren of Niota; one sister, Blanche Ratcliff of Chattanooga; one brother, Howard Carroll of Niota; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Roberson and the Rev. Robert Kelley officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at McMinn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Men of Christian Co-workers Sunday School class of Niota United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the services at the funeral home.

Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
