Dorothy M "Dot" (Carter) Smith was born on August 27, 1934 in Westmoreland, Tennessee, and she was the daughter of John "Leslie" Carter (1899-1974) and his wife Etta Aileen (Wix) Carter (1902-1991).

She was married to Hugh Elwin Smith (1934-1990), the son of Elwin B Smith and Sarah E (Bateman) Smith.

Dot was a wonderful and generous person who was always willing to help others in need. Earlier in her life she worked as a life coach to disadvantaged high-school-age girls. She also loved her "Willing Workers" Sunday school class at Inglewood Methodist and made many lifelong friends there. Quiet Sunday afternoons with her sister-in-law Peggy and her husband Chester, were always a highlight for her as she helped them make homemade ice cream for all the children of the families.

Dot was 81 years old and a resident of Hendersonville when she passed away on December 27, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her brothers David Carter, Joe Carter, Robert Carter, Donald Carter and Deward Carter; and by her sister Delphyn (Carter) Heck. Survivors included two married sons; two grandsons; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at Hendersonville Funeral Home, and burial was in Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
