Dawn Delight Baer, 41, of Ponte Vedra Beach, died Tuesday, August 7, 2001 at Baptist Medical Center-Beaches after a three-year courageous battle with cancer. She was born October 3, 1959 in Portsmouth, VA and moved to Ponte Vedra in 1978 from Dayton, OH. She was a supervisor for Homeside Lending. Dawn was very active in her childrens sports that included soccer, baseball and karate. She was also an active member of Palm Valley Baptist Church which included serving as director of the Childrens Missionary Program, coordinator of the Pre-School and Nursery, volunteered her cooking abilities for the Wednesday night suppers, taught Sunday School, assisted with Vacation Bible School and participated with the Helping Hands Project.
Family members include her loving husband, James Edward Baer; children, Jason Andrew Baer and Amy Nicole Baer all of the home; father, Homer E. Carter, SR. of Dayton, OH and mother, Virgie Carter of Pensacola, FL; brothers, Homer E. Carter, Jr. of New Carlisle, OH and John F. Carter of Moraine, OH, father and mother-in-law, Robert and Jeanne Baer of Ponte Vedra and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her sister, Tina Lynn Carter, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday (today), August 9th in the QUINN-SHALZ Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 10th in the Palm Valley Baptist Church with the Reverend Jim Richards, officiating. Interment will be in the Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery followed by a reception at Palm Valley Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Palm Valley Baptist Church, 4890 Palm Valley Rd., Ponte Vedra, FL 32082 for the establishment of the Dawn Baer Memorial Fund to assist Leah ONeil and other cancer patients.
