Leland C. ''Butch'' Cartwright, 62, of Springfield, died at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday November 27th, 2001 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born July 9th, 1939 in Springfield, the son of Leo Charles and Cathryn Schuchardt Cartwright. He married Elizabeth Ann Rachford June 5th, 1993 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chatham.

Mr. Cartwright was a graduate of Enos Grade School and Lanphier High School and attended Lincoln Land Community College. He had served as a Firefighter for the Springfield Fire Department for 23 years before retiring. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 4175, and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus-Bishop Griffin Assembly.

He was an avid golfer and liked to travel to Winter Haven, Florida. He also loved to cook, and cooked meals for the firefighters at his assigned firehouse. He also enjoyed entering chili cook-offs, and had won several cook-off competitions.

Mr. Cartwright was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Rita Schwarberg. Surviving are his wife- Beth Cartwright of Springfield; sons- Charles (wife-Candace) Cartwright of Auburn, Rick Cartwright of Springfield, John (wife-Maryann) Cartwright of Springfield, and Kevin (wife-Missy)Cartwright of Springfield; 13 grandchildren.

Concelebrated Funeral Mass at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the Rev. John Titus principal celebrant. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
