Mary Jane Cary was born in Berne, Albany Co., NY on August 3, 1831, a daughter of Samuel Cary and Elizabeth Joslin.

At about 1856 she married George S. Barton who was born on May 1, 1821 in Berne, the son of Caleb Barton and Sally Martha Carle. They had the following children:

Almon Barton born in 1857
Alda Barton born in 1860
Ida Barton born in 1863
Emma Barton born in 1867

Mary Jane died in 1899 and her husband in 1903.
