Stella (Leni) Caserio Leeling, age 93, of Lead, died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital.
Stella was born Sept. 23, 1915 in Lead to Dominick and Victoria Miglio Caserio. She attended school in Lead, graduating from Lead High School in 1933. She worked at Poloni's Boarding House before attending Business College in Lincoln, Neb. She worked for the Homestake Mining Company, Twin City Ready Mix and the Oldsmobile Garage before her retirement in 1978.
Stella was married to Peter Torino, who preceded her in death, and they had one son, Peter D. Torino. On July 14, 1943 she married Clarence Leeling in Colorado Springs, Colo., prior to him being shipped overseas during WWII. Stella and Clarence celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2008. They lived in Lead while raising their four children. Clarence preceded her in death Jan. 19, 2009.
She is survived by a son, Gerald (Jane) Leeling of Burke, Va.; her daughters, Patricia (Frank) Carr of Thornton, Colo., and Jeanette (Robert) Fraser of Brandon, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Clifford (Maxine) Caserio of Lead; sister- in-law, Mildred Willson of Whitewood; brothers-in-law, John Marinoni of Price, Utah, and John LaVoy of Spearfish; and numerous nieces and nephews. Stella was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Sandra Torino; her parents; brothers, Charlie and Joe Venuta, and Charlie and Stephen Caserio; sisters, Lucy Bachelli, Theresa King, Margaret Larive, Annie and Patty Marinoni; and husbands Peter Torino and Clarence Leeling.
Stella was a member of the Lead Chapter of the Women of the Moose and the Lead-Deadwood VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, bowling and gardening. Her roses still grace the family home.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead, followed by a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2009 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
The Aldinger Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with the services.
