Alva Mae Cash, age 96, of Johnson City, passed away Monday, February 19, 2007, at Life Care Center of Gray following a lengthy illness.

A native of Washington County, TN, she was a daughter of the late C.M and Amanda Houk. She attended First Church of the Brethren, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Cash enjoyed gardening and canning, and she loved to fish.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Fred M. Cash, in 1999; three sisters, Dora Ferguson, Iva Conley and Anna Lee Houk; one brother, Earl Houk.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Martha Lee Hodge and husband, Bill, of Gray. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Cash will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 21, 2007, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor Rufus E. Smith officiating. There will be a private graveside at a later time. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M. in the East Parlor prior to the funeral service. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the nursing staff of Life Care Center of Gray for their special care of Mrs. Cash.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Church of the Brethren, 122 Bart Green Drive, Johnson City, TN 37615. Condolences may be sent to the Cash family at [email protected].
