Herman Ray Cates
LEFORS - Herman Ray Cates, 81, died Sunday, June 21, 1998.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lewis Ellis, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Heights Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.

Mr. Cates was born in Hunt County and had lived in Lefors since 1931. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II and also was a military policeman that served all branches of the armed services. He had been a pumper for Texaco for 38 years.

Mr. Cates served on the Lefors City Council and was a member of the Lefors Lions Club and Optimist Club. He was a Baptist.

He married Lavern Robertson in 1946 at Mangum, Okla.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Phil Cates of Dripping Springs; two sisters, his twin, Opal Presley and Corean Roberts, both of Lefors; and two grandsons.

The family requests memorials be to First Baptist Church.
