Roma Amburgey, 87, was a native of Letcher, Kentucky

Roma Amburgey, 87, of Scipio died at 10:50 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Columbus Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service was conducted Sunday at Dixon Memorial Old Regular Baptist Church in Letcher, Ky., with Allen Whitaker officiating. Burial was at Dixon Memorial Cemetery in Letcher. Arrangements were made by Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon.

Mrs. Amburgey was a cook for the Letcher School in Letcher, Ky. She enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw puzzles and flower gardening.

Born Nov. 30, 1919, in Premium, Ky., she was the daughter of Cleveland and Malva Fields Caudill. She married Benjamin F. Amburgey, Sr., on June 9, 1939, in Roxana, Ky. He preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2000.

She is survived by four sons, Manuel Amburgey of Letcher, Benjamin Amburgey, Jr., of Whitesburg, Ky., and Enos and Edward Amburgey of Scipio; two brothers, Carlos Dixon of Blackie, Ky., and Roy Dixon of Letcher; two sisters, Vestine and Shelby Back of Franklin, Ohio; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Georgia Back; a brother, Billy Dixon; and a granddaughter, Kathy Ann Amburgey.
