"Jo" Chandler was active earlier in her life in women's softball, bowling, cub scouts as a den mother, little league and pony league baseball. She and her husband were active in the La Mesa Church of Christ, as well as, senior activities with friends from Cameron's Mobile estates in Santee.
She attended business school as a young woman in Dallas, Texas before marrying husband Claude during World War II and beginning her career as engineering secretary with Ryan Aeronautical and later as training/marketing secretary for Foodmaker when they were just starting to grow their business operations.
Her most enjoyable pastimes involved her grandchildren and later great-grandchildren, as well as children in general, playing bingo with her friends and helping to organize activities and outings. She never hesitated to share her time with others, it was her greatest gift she could give. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and acquaintances.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday Nov 14 at 2PM at the La Mesa Church of Christ on Jackson Drive in La Mesa, Ca. Final private entombment will be with her husband at Ft. Rosecrans in Point Loma. Published in The San Diego Union Tribune on Nov. 11, 2004
