Nancy Chandler Beeman

Oct. 31, 1925 - June 15, 2013

Nancy's life journey began on Halloween in San Francisco - home of the Golden Gate. She was the beloved daughter of Lloyd McCrory Chandler Sr. and Mildred Verna Polland Chandler, whose families settled in Vacaville in the 1830s. The middle child - flanked by her oldest brother "Mac" and her "baby" brother Kim - Nancy grew up in Vacaville when it was a small agricultural community. As kids, Nancy and her brothers loved spending the summers at the family's Stinson Beach home.

After graduating from Vacaville High School in 1944, Nancy attended Heald's Business School in Sacramento. Near the end of WWII, she worked as a secretary for Consairway, a private aircraft contractor for the Army at Travis, where she met William L. Beeman - a pilot. Nancy and Bill married in 1945. Their son Paul was born in 1947, and in 1948 Bill's job took the family to Peru for a short while. In 1952, Rocky was born. Bill opened his law office in Vallejo in 1954 and Nancy worked as his secretary all the while caring for the family home and raising their sons. She was the foundation that kept the family together during their childhood. After 23 years of marriage, Nancy and Bill divorced. She was the beacon of light in her sons' adult lives, helping to guide them at critical junctures with her unconditional love and support.

Nancy's father started Lloyd Chandler Furniture Company in 1938 and built it into a thriving business that eventually included Mac and Kim. Nancy also worked for a number of years at the family business as a part-time bookkeeper. The business was sold in 1986.

Gracious, elegant, zest for life, soft spoken, funny, adventurous, kind, spiritual, heart of gold, loyal friend, devoted mother, loving "Grammy" - these are words that defined Nancy. Her warm smile and kind eyes always brightened a room. Inheriting the travel bug from her parents and having a passion for history, the arts, and culture, she toured all over the United States, Europe and Asia, forming friendships along the way. Nancy enjoyed the company of her many friends - playing bridge, vacationing, going to dinner parties and the theater. Over a period of approximately 25 years, she performed in a number of small theater productions in San Francisco and the East Bay.

Stinson Beach and Mt. Tam remained a constant source of fond memories and good times for Nancy. She loved to spend time there with Paul and Rocky, and her granddaughter Lauren - hiking the trails, picnicking, soaking up the sun, visiting the galleries, and just relaxing and enjoying the moment with her family - her pride and joy.

At the age of 87, Nancy passed from this life in Vacaville following a long illness. There are no words to describe how much she will be missed, but she will be remembered most for her love of her sons and entire family. Her smile and graciousness will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Shaula Jane Beeman; her parents, Lloyd McCrory Chandler Sr. and Mildred Verna Polland Chandler; and her brother Lloyd "Mac" Chandler Jr.

Nancy is survived by her sons Paul Lloyd Beeman of Vallejo and Rockne Chandler Beeman of San Francisco, her brother Kim Rothwell Chandler of Vacaville, granddaughter Lauren Ann Marcisz of San Clemente, grandson Samuel Paul Beeman of San Francisco, great granddaughter Kylie Ann Marcisz of San Clemente, great grandson Blake Paul Marcisz of San Clemente, and a large extended family.

Nancy's resting place is with her parents and her brother "Mac" at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. A private service is planned for family members.
