d. aft Oct 1949; Daughter of Sgt. Henry and Ann Eliza (Moore) Walp; Wife of Felix Chapelle.

Mrs. Chappelle Dies, Legion Post Was Named After Son - One of Ponca's oldest residents, Mrs. Alice Chappelle, 95, died May 27 at the home of her son, Arthur Chappelle in Chicago. Funeral services were held May 30, at Mohr's funeral chapel in Ponca with Rev. James Bell, pastor of the Ponca Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Ponca cemetery. Mrs. Chapel lived in Dubuque, Iowa before coming to Sioux City at the age of 18. She taught school near Yankton, S. D., while that was still Dakota territory. She married Felix Chappelle at McCook, S. D., in January 1883. They lived in Sioux City before moving to Nebraska in December, 1901. She lived on a farm northwest of Ponca for many years and moved to Ponca in spring of 1917, where she maintained her home until two years ago. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. May Watson of California, two sons, Clarence and Arthur of Chicago. [Dakota County Star, The (South Sioux City, NE): 7 Jun 1956]

Alice's obit states she is buried in Ponca Cemetery, Ponca, Neb where her husband is also buried. Her obit also states she was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Walp.
I believe Andrew Walp, born 1830 PA, died 1915 Jackson County, IA is her father. I forgot to copy down his memorial number for you. I believe, from the information on Andrews's memorial that Alice's mother was probably Susan Pearson whom Andrew married in 1878. Andrews next marriage wasn't until 1892. I find that Alice grew up in an orphanage in Davenport, IA so I would suppose her mother died by 1880 when Alice is found in Davenport.
