RUTH CHAPELLE NASH
(1917 - 2007)

Ruth Chapelle Nash, age 90, of 819 N. 14th St., Manitowoc, entered eternal life late Sunday evening, March 4, 2007, at the family residence.

She was born on Jan. 3, 1917 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Clyde E. and Retta D. Deibler Chapelle. Ruth graduated from Wauwatosa High School with the class of 1934. She continued her education at Lawrence University graduating in 1938, and furthered her education attending Wellesley College for one year. She married John Pritchard Nash of Manitowoc on Nov. 3, 1951 in Appleton. He preceded her in death March 8, 1994.

Ruth was very interested and active in civic, charitable and educational organizations, including the following: Junior Service League of Manitowoc; Salvation Army Day Care Center, board member; Lakeland College, trustee 1971; Lawrence University, Founder's Club; Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority; Phi Beta Kappa; Clio Club member; P.E.O. Sisterhood member; American Field Service, host family; Rahr West Museum, board member; Camp Farthest Out, member; Branch River Country Club, life member; YMCA; Order of St. Luke; The Physician; and The Capital Theater Civic Center. Ruth was also an active and longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former deacon and elder of the church.

She is survived by her son: Dr. James Lyman (Dr. Cintia Lombardi) Nash, Washington, D.C.; two daughters: Anne Purdy Massey, Bay village, Ohio; Dr. Barbara Pritchard (Patrick Flynn) Nash, Concord, Mass.; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends surviving.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Clyde and Retta Chapelle; husband: John P. Nash on March 8, 1994; son: David Bruce Purdy; son-in-law: George Massey; two brothers: Robert Cecil Chapelle and James Lester Chapelle.

Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Friday, April 13, 2007, from 4 to 6 p.m. at which time the visitation will conclude with a memorial video tribute in honor and celebration of Ruth's life followed by shared memories with family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church, 502 N. Eighth St., Manitowoc with the Rev. Dr. Matthew Sauer officiating. There will be no visitation at the church prior to the funeral service as a reception will follow the service at the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Memorials would be appreciated to First Presbyterian Church, Lakeland College or Lawrence University.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Nash-Purdy Wedding Is Saturday in Appleton
At three o'clock Saturday afternoon, in the presence of a small gathering of relatives, Ruth Chapelle Purdy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Chapelle, Palisades Drive, Appleton, was married to John Pritchard Nash, of Manitowoc, son of Mrs. Archie Lyman Nash, of Manitowoc, and the late Mr. Nash. The Reverend Dascomb Forbush, of the First Congregational Church of Appleton performed the ceremony at the home of the bride's parents.

The bride's only attendant was Mrs. James Shattuck of New Haven, Conn. George S. Roudebush, of St. Louis No., acted as best man.

Mrs. Nash is a graduate of Lawrence College, Appleton, and did post-graduate work at Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass.

Mr. Nash is a graduate fo Lawrenceville School, Princeton University, Princeton, N.J., and Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Mass. He is a partner in the law firm of Nash, Clark, Rankin and Nash, of Manitowoc.

After a month's honeymoon in Europe, including a short Mediterranean cruse, Mr. and Mrs. Nash will return early in December to Manitowoc, where they will make their home.
