JUMPING BRANCH - Ida Charlton Abshire went to be with her Lord and Savior at 4:52 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2002, at her residence in Jumping Branch following a long illness. She was the 14th of 17 children born to the late Thomas Edgar and Edna Gray Meador Charlton of Madams Creek. Mrs. Abshire was a homemaker and former postmaster of the Jumping Branch Post Office, retiring after 21 years. A member of Bluestone Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school for many years and was active in the church's music ministry. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.B. Abshire; they were married for 60 years. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Noel Abshire and wife, Martha, of Jumping Branch and Dr. Kyle Dean Abshire and wife, Margaret, of Orange Park, Fla.; two granddaughters, Lisa Susanne Wood and husband, Jimmy, and Sarah Kristi Abshire, and great-grandson, Jason Holden Abshire, all of Jumping Branch; five sisters, Edna Cole of Nim-itz, Beulah Hannigan of Hinton, Hallie Hoffman of Weaver-ville, N.C., Helen Wise of Gai-thersburg, Md., and Margaret Kennedy of Vienna, Va.; two brothers, John Charlton of Blackstone, Va., and Tom Charlton of Lima, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Service will be 1 p.m. today at Bluestone Baptist Church, Jumping Branch, with Pastor Bill Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Abshire Family Cemetery, Jumping Branch. Friends called 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton, and may call one hour before service today at the church. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Wood, Reuhl Meadows, Bobby Keaton, Sonny Lawson, Bob Mills and Donald Crook. Arrangements by Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton.
