Heaven gained a first class citizen----earth lost one. Kindness was her trademark and she instilled it in her students. Death occurred at 9:39 PM on December 19, 2015.

Billie, Billie Mary, Mom C, Miss Billie, age 76, of Moss Bluff, was born on January 10, 1939 and was raised in Lake Charles. She was a 1956 graduate of Lake Charles High School where she was a member and played the snare drum for the Marching Kilties.

Billie Mary continued her education after she raised her 5 children and received a B.S. degree in education in 1985 as well as pursued a master’s degree at McNeese State University.

Billie was a very caring person and provided a helping hand to anyone in need. She was a devout Catholic and supported Catholic education through teaching at Holy Family Catholic School and Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD). Mom C had unconditional love for her family, friends, students, and fellow parishioners.

Miss Billie touched many hearts during her life through her work at the Speech and Hearing Center of Southwest Louisiana, Henning Elementary School, Gillis Elementary School, St. Theodore Holy Family Catholic School, and making costumes with her son. She also touched the lives of many through social groups that she was a member of, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Krewe de Charlie Sioux, Travelers Protective Association, McNeese Alumni, McNeese Outriders, National Guard Wives Club, St. Theodore Catholic Church and former member of the St. Theodore Troubadour Choir.

Mom C loved to stay busy. Her hobbies included cooking, shopping, sewing, gardening, providing for others, traveling with her sister and cousins, celebrating family birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. She also enjoyed making the annual trip to the sister city of Lake Charles, Sioux City, Iowa, spending time at the camp, watching performing arts, Wheel of Fortune and working puzzles.

Billie Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 57 years, Raymond Chavanne; sister, Sharon (Cookie) Phillips (David); four sons, John, Will (Pauline), Doug (Jamie), and Robert; one daughter, Catherine; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Alex, Austin, Allison, Adam, Aaron, Anna and Christopher; three great grandchildren, Drake, McKinlee, and Harper; her loving cat, Mister; and her loving cousins, Beryl, Leverne, Cynthia, Betty Jean, and Paul.

Billie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mae Dittmann.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. John Huckaby and Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until leaving for the church at 9:15 AM.
