Her grandfather Lemuel Chipman was a well known politician of the day in Vermont and later in New York, and his brothers Nathaniel and Daniel were well known politicians in Vermont. Susan came with her parents to Michigan and married Cyrenus Abbott on July 15, 1840 in Livingston Co. Michigan. They had six children. Sarah M., George , Francis E., Emma E., Mina, and one who remains unknown at present but may be the "Infant Abbott" buried in the same plot as the parents. Susan (Chipman) Abbott died April 2, 1875 at 53 years and 28 days old of diabetes.
