Ethel Mae Christian, 92, of San Jacinto California, died Thursday February 28, a week before her 93rd birthday. On March 7, 1920 in Epley Mississippi., Willie and Rebecca Harris, had their first child, of five, a beautiful baby girl, who they named Ethel Mae. At her age three the family moved from Epley to Chicago, Illinois.

Her sisters Willa Mae, Clementine, and Margurite preceded her in death as did her brother William.

In 1938, Ethel graduated from DuSable High School, in Chicago. At the age of 19, Ethel married Robert Smith they were later divorced. In 1951 she and Charles S. Christian Jr. were married, from those unions Ethel had six children, in 1981 Charles preceded her in death.

As a Homemaker, Ethel received numerous awards for her beautiful flower gardens, cakes and crafts. In 1967 she started working as a secretary for private medical doctors at Cook County Hospital. In 1968 she completed training in the field of nursing in Chicago. She later worked at Oak Forest Hospital as a nurse assistant until she retired in 1988.

Ethel assisted her sisters Margurite Montgomery and Clementine Hurst who were union stewards at Oak Forest Hospital who helped to establish H.E.L.P., a hospital employees union at Oak Forest. Ethel was honored along with her sisters many times for their efforts. Ethel was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her patients and would regularly share the word of God with them. Ethel centered her life around Jesus Christ and the word of God. Ethel was consistent, dedicated and would stay with her convictions until the goal or objective was accomplished.

At an early age Ethel gave her life to Christ and was a member of Grant Memorial Church in Chicago. She also attended Calvary Baptist church and visited Christ Universal Temple and other churches in the Chicago area. Ethel daily taught her children to read the Bible and to have faith in God.

Ethel moved to California in 1989 where she frequently visited The Faith Dome in Los Angeles, and attended Imani Praise Fellowship SDA church in Moreno Valley. She supported Kenneth Copeland Ministries, Ever Increasing Faith, Joyce Meyers, Feed the Children and others.

Ethel loved to travel some of her fondest memories were when she and her sisters Clementine and Margurite went on island cruses and to other places they visited on their vacations.

Ethel leaves to morn her six children, Claudia Vieyra, of Moreno Valley Ca.; Carol Smith, of Glendale, Az.; Charles Christian, of Scottsdale, Az.; Camille Christian of Alameda Ca.; Lynette Christian, of Glendale, Az.; and Enda Banks of San Jacinto, CA,; eleven grandchildren, twenty-eight great grand children and five great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, their children, and her extended family and friends.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Miller-Jones-Sun City, 26770 Murrieta Road, Sun City, CA 92586 (951)672-0777 from 4:00pm -8:00pm. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 1:00pm followed by a Graveside Service at Menifee Valley Memorial Park at 2:00pm.
