The funeral for Dimo Christianson, 88, of Minnewaukan will be held May 16 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church from 12 noon until the time of service.

She died May 11, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake.

Pastor Betty J. Stedman will officiate. Arlyss Bergrud will be soloist and Deanna Hanson will be organist. Casket bearers will be Elmer and Jamie Aabrekke, Lloyd Burgess, Raymond Gustafson, Darrell Johnson and Dennis Olson. Honorary bearers will be the Minnewaukan 55 Club and her friends at the Maddock Memorial Home in Maddock. Interment will be in the Stony Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Minnewaukan. The Nelson Funeral Home in Minnewaukan is in charge of arrangements.

Dimo Christianson was born Dec. 3, 1919 at Maddock to Simon and Maren (Nelson) Hestnas. She attended school at Harlow and Minnewaukan. She worked at the Chris Aanenson farm cooking and canning and also for several other families.

She married Selmer "Slim" Aabrekke in December of 1943. They lived in Minnewaukan where she cooked in restaurants and for the Benson county Highway Department for 14 years. She also cooked at the Odd Fellows Home in Devils Lake. He died in 1980.

She married Melvin Christianson in 1984. She lived in Leeds and cared for a number of elderly people in their homes. She retired in 1991 and moved back to Minnewaukan. She became a resident of the Maddock Memorial Home in February of 2004 and recently moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake.

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, a former member of the Stony Lake Lutheran Church, the Minnewaukan 55 Club and the Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed baking lefse and donuts, especially with her friend, Marnie Volden and making quilts during winters. She also was talented at interior decorating and loved dogs and cats.

Survivors include a step-sister, Eileen Gustafson of Devils Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Selmer; an infant daughter; five brothers, Jesse, Eugene, Arnold, Roland and Alvin Hestnas; and a sister, Erma Malley.
