Bruce, Karen and Peyton Barber
The pilot of a small airplane that crashed into the Florida everglades over the weekend, returning from a University of Florida football weekend in Gainesville, had Tampa roots. Bruce Charles Barber, 46, grew up in Tampa, and his parents, George and Shirley Barber still own a home on South Beach Drive in South Tampa. Published reports said that Barber's parents traveled to Fort Lauderdale to comfort their grandchild who was not on the airplane when it crashed and killed her parents and her older brother, along with a family friend from Coral Springs. Crews continued to comb the site of the crash for wreckage and remains, and this morning said they had located all four bodies: Barber; his wife, Karen; and their 14-year-old son, Peyton. Phillip Marsh, 46, was also on the flight, reports said. They all had flown to Gainesville over the weekend to attend a fundraiser for Gov. Charlie Crist and watch the University of Florida football game against the University of Tennessee on Saturday.
